The Reconciliation Engine: Virtual DOM & Diffing

React's primary architectural advantage is its Reconciliation Engine. Instead of recalculating layout and painting pixels for every state change, React maintains a lightweight representation of the UI in memory—the Virtual DOM. When state updates, React performs a Heuristic O(n) Diffing Algorithm to identify the minimal set of changes required to synchronize the real DOM with the Virtual representation.
